A few years ago, we discovered the versatility of cork when we came across the unique cork products sold in the shops of Portugal, and the idea for ABSOLUTELY KNOTS was born. Our company was founded on a passion for bow ties and a fascination with cork.
Our flagship product is the “Cortiça” bow tie (“cork” in Portuguese). Cork is a sustainable and recyclable material made from the bark of the cork oak tree, native to southern Portugal. Following 25-30 years of initial growth, the bark is harvested every 9 years over its 200+ year life span, using an ancient and natural process that does not harm the tree (learn more about cork here). Our cork fabric is sourced from a supplier in Portugal that has been harvesting cork for almost 100 years.
Sourcing fabrics is one of our favorite things to do and we are continually looking for unique fabrics with distinctive textures and prints. In addition to cork, our bow ties are made from a variety of other fabrics like cotton, velvet, velour, corduroy, wool, and linen.
